the newborn session experience

When should I book a newborn session?

As soon as possible!  I usually photograph babies who are 7-14 days old.  If your session is scheduled in advance, I make sure to keep a prime day saved just for you and your new little one!  Otherwise my availability isn't guaranteed, although I will try my best.

What will parents do during a session?

I have an assistant for every newborn session (your little one's safety is my #1 priority!) , so parents are free to watch, relax on my couch (I won't tell if you take a little nap!), or bounce between the studio and living room to rest.  It's my goal to provide you with a relaxing, safe, comfortable experience that will be a fond memory for years to come!

Do you do weekend sessions?

Newborn sessions are always scheduled on a weekday and they will begin at 9am in my Stuarts Draft studio.  Because they are time intensive and weekends are my time with my own family, I only schedule them on weekday mornings.

How long does a newborn session last?

On average, 2.5-3 hours, although it could be a little more or less, depending on baby.  I don't rush them and feeding/soothing/changing takes time.  I am in no rush and your session is the only newborn session I will do that day.

What do I need to bring?

I keep my studio fully stocked with props, headbands, blankets, wraps, diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer....it's all there!  You are of course welcome to bring a special headband, blanket, etc. for me to incorporate but as far as you providing the outfits or props...I have you covered!

Can my spouse or other children be included in the session?

Absolutely!  I strongly encourage you to take mom/dad/family/sibling shots during the session.  It might feel like a ton of energy/work to get ready before, but it will be a memory of the short time your newborn will fit in your hands...because they grow so fast it will change before you know it!  As far as what to wear for that, I have a complete prep guide that is sent via email to you at the time of booking that covers all of the details you need to know that might not be covered here!

What if someone in my family is sick on the day of my session?

Your newborn's safety is my #1 priority.  In addition to us keeping germs from your little one, it's important to reschedule if anyone in your family is/has been sick.  I often am in contact with several newborns a week and I would never want to risk getting any of those little ones sick!  So if there is sickness in your family (or in mine!  Hey...it happens!), we will work together to reschedule as soon as possible.  Healthy family first!
