Lanugo is a special type of body hair found on newborn babies. A newborn baby covered in hair might be surprising, but lanugo is perfectly normal. Not all babies are born with lanugo, but all of them were coated with it in the womb. The hair usually goes away before birth, but sometimes it sticks around until a baby is born or even for a few months after.
I remember being surprised at this with my new babies, how did I not know?!

I started doing Fresh 48 sessions to help capture the beginning moments of baby’s life because I myself missed those moments when my own kids were born. It’s a blur of emotions, exhaustion and hormones. So many questions and feelings, taking photos was probably the last thing on my mind! (Camera phones weren’t a thing when my oldest two were born 🥴, low quality phone photos were all I got when I had my youngest 🤷🏻‍♀️ )
All I want is to be able to do is to capture lasting memories for parents, giving them a relaxed and stress-free block of time for photos while they are still at the hospital. No fancy props, just baby and family.
I am so pleased to offer these sessions at Augusta Health, RMH, Sentara Harrisonburg and Martha Jeff Hospitals! ❤️

It was a wonderful season of my life, but after my youngest was born, I realized my family needed me at home in ways that I couldn’t do at the same time as teaching. That’s where my photography career started to grow. And as much as I love photographing babies, seniors will forever hold a special place in my heart. ❤️🥹❤️

Seems like yesterday I took newborn photos for their oldest daughter, now almost 4 years later they're back in my studio with baby Liza. She was an angel and this family is so special, it almost didn't feel like work! 🥰😁

Just how many layers goes on that posing table?!? 😳🤭

For me, the layers have a twofold purpose. First, it creates a “blanket” of fabric that is stretched smooth without wrinkles, so that the posing ring underneath them can’t be seen. Lots of stretchy fabric = a potentially smooth background!
Also, baby is often on the posing table without a diaper. (I know, risky! 😆) So if there does happen to be a little accident, I’m able to take off enough layers for cleaning without leaving too few behind.
This is just what works well for me!

I was just chatting with a new mom today about how sometimes, we just survive and that’s all we can do for the day. Parenthood is new and hard, but as these kids grow, it’s so rewarding seeing who they turn into.
Lots to look forward to and lots to do, but if you’re just surviving today- that’s okay. You’re loved and appreciated. And today, that’s all that matters. ❤️
